Introduction
While studying at the ANU is usually a wonderful experience, there may be times during your degree where things do not transpire as you planned. In light of the various issues that can emerge during the course of a student’s degree, the University has enacted several policies to cover the breadth of student concerns. The following is a brief summary of the various policies concerning appeals and grievances and provides a simple guide to navigating these policies. Do not take the following as an authoritative statement of the ANU’s policies concerning appeals and grievances and please seek further information about the appeals process from the President of ANUSA on sa.president@anu.edu.au or the Dean of Students on DOS@anu.edu.au.

Student Complaint Resolution
The policy governing the resolution of student complaints is intended to cover adverse decisions or action relating to a student's experience at the ANU. This includes complaints of discrimination, harassment or serious grievances other than those issues that are addresses in specific policy relating to that issue (see below).

Review and Appeal of Assessment
Under the ANU's Assessment Review & Appeals Policy, if a student believes that he/she has received an inappropriate or incorrect result in a course they are entitled to seek a review of that piece of assessment.

Appeal a Decision of the Library
The University Librarian is responsible for making decisions in relation to the services delivered by the Library. The Information Infrastructure and Services Rules 2006 from Council confer this authority. In particular, the University Librarian may make decisions in regard to the return of items borrowed, a failure to pay a fine, loss of any items borrowed, damage to items and the conduct of Library users. Penalties may be imposed for infringements. If you are dissatisfied with a decision about a penalty, you may appeal against this decision by making a submission to the University Librarian.

Review of Traffic Infringement Notice
Traffic and parking on campus is controlled under the provisions of the Australian National University Parking and Traffic Statute. This gives traffic officers the authority to issue infringement notices where they perceive that a violation of the Statute has occurred. It you wish to dispute liability, you must lodge an appeal in writing within 28 days of receiving the notice.
